The World of Work

Some of Alberta's most fascinating and beautiful historic sites and resources provide a compelling and rewarding employment experience.  Display Exhibitry and Audio Visual components occupy much of my time, and largely out of view of most visitors.  Please take an on-line tour of some of our more prominent facilities dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Alberta's rich historic past.  And don't forget to take in "Heritage Trails" heard twice daily on Alberta's public broadcaster, CKUA Radio.

Located near Fort Macleod, Alberta and the Peigan Nation, Head-Smashed-In is one of the largest and most well preserved examples of prehistoric buffalo hunting methodologies.  Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich archaeological treasures as well as for its contributions to the development of humankind, Head-Smashed-In today remains a hauntingly powerful experience.

Cardston, Alberta is Home to the Remington - Alberta Carriage Centre .  With some 250 examples of horse drawn transportation, this collection is one of the largest and most complete to be found anywhere.  Enjoy the on-line tour of the galleries, and when you visit make sure to participate in the ride program.  Here you see some of our Clydesdales pulling a Yellowstone Coach, and the Canadians on a winter's sleigh ride.

On April 29, 1903, the early morning stillness of the Crowsnest Pass was shattered as 90 million tons of limestone broke free from Turtle Mountain.  At the  Frank Slide Interpretive Centre  you can learn not only about the slide and its impact on the surrounding communities, but about the richly varied heritage of the Crowsnest Pass.
